1. The Karate Kid [Blu-Ray] (2010)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Like many people, I expected the worst from the 2010 Karate Kid remake. However, the end result comes as a pleasant surprise. While not without flaws, this version boasts enough charm and entertainment to make it satisfying. The Blu-ray provides very good picture, satisfying audio, and a decent set of supplements. I’d like more bonus materials, but over

2. The Matrix Revolutions [4k UHD] (2003)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: The Matrix Revolutions finishes a once-exciting series on a moderately flat note. I can’t call it a bad film, as it presents far too much good action and excitement to flop, but it lacks the humanity and depth that helped make the first movie such a success. Starring Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne. Warner, $41.99, 10/30/2018.

3. The Matrix Reloaded [Blu-Ray] (2003)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: It may not pack the innovative punch of its predecessor, but The Matrix Reloaded creates a powerful flick on its own. Inconsistent but ultimately satisfying, it leaves me wanting more and anxious for the final chapter in the trilogy. The Blu-ray presents very good picture and sound plus a broad, informative set of supplements. It’s unquestionably the be

6. Girls Trip [Blu-Ray] (2017)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: A surprise hit, Girls Trip connected with critics and audiences, but I can’t figure out why. The movie offers trite characters, predictable plot developments and witless stabs at humor. Starring Regina Hall, Queen Latifah. Universal, $34.98, 10/17/2017.

7. The Women (2008)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: The 1939 version of The Women maintains a following as a minor classic. 69 years from now, I doubt that anyone will remember – or want to remember – the dire 2008 remake. Silly, fluffy and pointless, the movie simply churns out “you go, girl!” nonsense without anything to make it more substantial or compelling ... Stay far away from this tripe. Starring

8. Madagascar (2005)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: No one will mistake Madagascar for a great animated movie, but that shouldn’t negate its pleasures. The film manages just enough fun and entertainment to work. Starring Ben Stiller, Chris Rock. DreamWorks, $29.99, 11/15/2005.

9. Ali: The Director's Cut (2001)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: fans who don’t own the old disc should definitely go for the Director’s Cut DVD. While I wasn’t wild about the additional footage worked into the movie or the supplements, they still add value to the package that doesn’t exist in the original release. Of the two, the Director’s Cut is clearly the superior release and the one for new fans to buy. Starring
